February's edition of the Berkeley Balkan Bacchanal presents a three-part concert featuring the rare worldly talent of local Bay Area musicians. The Berkeley Balkan Bacchanal is a notoriously raucous marathon of music and dance at the Starry Plough on the second Friday of every month.

Vadalma 9pm

Vadalma (“Wild Apple”) will bring vibrant and exuberant Hungarian folk songs to their Bacchanal debut! Led by Zina Bozzay (voice, ütőgardon), with Matthew Szemela's fiery fiddling and Misha Khalikulov's soulful cello, they'll play traditional village folk songs from central Transylvania, Gyimes, Moldavia, Transdanubia, and other parts of the Carpathian Basin, in traditional and their infectious original arrangements, for your listening ears and dancing toes.

Fanfare Zambaleta 10pm

Coming off an awesome set to ring in the New Year at Ashkenaz, Balkan brass blasters Fanfare Zambaleta will be bringing an all-instrumental set to the Bacchanal jam-packed with new exciting tunes and arrangements. They'll forgo their usual all-night brass party for one set, lean and mean. You won't want to miss it!

Kugelplex 11pm

Kugelplex is California’s rockin’-est purveyor of klezmer and old-world party music. Formed in 2001, the group plays wild, soulful dance music at weddings, concerts and festivals throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and beyond. They’ve performed with Joan Baez, the Oakland Symphony, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir and Frank London (founder of the Klezmatics) and many other great artists.
